Here's the thinking about our profession:

Potential Client:
My property located at ************** Hayward, Ca, the size of my lot is 150' x 276' long and I built home on the front part of the house.
The corner marks are exposed and I am thinking to build about 1200 s/f home on
the back area which is relatively level . and on the topo I have to show the location of the existing home and have
the slope percentage which is about 14% from street .
I will be a truthful and tell you I have the amount of ( $1,000.00 ) budget , if you interested please let
me know

Surveyor:
I can definitely tell you my fees to map out your property will be $ #,### to $ #,###
If your on a tight budget, I wish you good luck.

Potential Client:
In response to your proposal , regardless of my budget for 35 years as a licensed general contractor and builder
I never paid for lousy topo that kind of price , for the existing topo that i have paid only $700.
your price is consider as rip off. it's only less than two hours work.

The sad part is that he will find someone to do it for his price.

After all, it's only "a couple of hours work."

I agree with your prospective client-lousy topos should be under $1000.
Awesome topos are on a different scale and fee schedule.
CLSA members don't do lousy topos, we do awesome topos.
