CSU Fresno Geomatics 60th Annual Conference

Post by Mike Hartley »

Good afternoon on this fine Friday. The students at CSU Fresno, along with some help from folks within the surveying community and the management team at CAMS, have been busy putting together the speakers, topics, etc. for this year's conference. The speaker list is fantastic! Join us for a fantastic conference. The registration form is here:

Is the schedule of speakers available, Michael? Those of us in the public sector need to be able to share the program with the bean counters so we can get even the time spent at the event approved.

I think the list of speakers is finalized, but the schedule is not yet (to my knowledge anyway). I'll see what I can find out and update accordingly in the next couple of days.

As a side note, I'm definitely missing seeing folks in person and would much prefer that to a virtual conference. However, the need to do this virtually has its benefits - this year's list of speakers is terrific! Again, I'll update soon.

I have been asked to speak at the conference this year. I submitted the following for programs. I have not received the approval on the programs - the sessions below are technically unofficial.

[Session 1] Easements – words matter.

The east thirty feet, together with west 30 feet, of Lot 1 for roadway purposes. What could go wrong? After years of bitter litigation, the case turned on its head based a theory offered by the land surveyor. A lesson in reading, research and the understanding that words have meaning. Where does a land surveyor’s liability begin and end?

[Session 2] The Land Surveying World We Live In – sometimes it is the devil we know.

A wend through the past, present and future of land surveying: mapping your career for the future, selecting your next employer and exit strategies, employee retention based on the Price Law, the importance of licensure, prevailing wage and public works, multiemployer pension plans, moving the profession away from trades and engineering oversight, the threat of deregulation, together with various perspectives on the state of the profession. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. There will be an open question and answer session at the end of the presentation. Put your thinking cap on.

The program is available - please see the attached. I did not intend on signing up - seeing the program genuinely excited me into signing up.
