Dr. Fareed Nader

I just was informed that Dr. Fareed Nader has passed away last night at his home in Clovis. It is with a deep heart I send my condolences out to his wife , family, and friends who all new him. I thought it needs to be shared since no one has mentioned it as of yet today and there are so many of us practicing who respected Fareed, and know he has dealt with various medical issues over the past number of years.

Fareed was a great professor who taught me a lot of "Real World" surveying while studying at Fresno. He took a "Real World" approach to teaching, from his explanation of how we are all born an ellipsoid, and as we grow, develop and learn more, we are all in search of becoming that perfectly round meatball. He also educated the students to don't let your college classes get in the way of learning. In other words, he emphasized us to go attend surveying conferences, even if it meant taking an exam at the conference, done once, lol! He also identified how you will only use 10% of your education in the real world after graduation, and after 30+ years, he was pretty darn close!

Now he is upstairs looking down at us, as he is checking the Celestial Baseline which others before him established ! ! !

Fareed Nader, two Arabic words that mean rare or one of a kind and he was exactly like that. He served our college for more than five decades. He was kind and respected everyone that worked with him. He contributed a lot in establishing the geomatics engineering program. May his soul rest in peace. We will always remember Dr Nader as a teacher, as a mentor and as a friend. one of a kind.

I am saddened to hear this news. Dr. Nader was a good friend. He had a great sense of humor and he was really devoted to his students. I hope CLSA can honor him in some way, perhaps through a scholarship. He was a wonderful human being.

Such a legacy few can match. Quite a few of us, can claim Dr. Nadar as our mentor. I was at point in college, I could have gone either way, Fareed listened and let me know, that not all education was formal. I am where I am due to Fareed Nadar. He vested his time when I was a student, as well as the years after. I am thankful for the continued support long after he hosted our graduation celebration at his home. One of my career highlights is the day I was a guest lecturer for one of his classes.

What a great loss! And what a great person.

He was fun to talk with, argue with, learn from, and just plain spend time with.

He will be missed.

Not having a formal education on land surveying, I never had "official" classes from him, but he taught me something almost every time we met.

What a great legacy to have had such an influence over so many. He truly made the world a different and better place.

Fareed W. Nader Phd. CSUF, age 82, of Clovis, California entered into rest on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Fareed was born September 27, 1938 to Helen Nader and Wade Nader.
Fareed is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Bezerra-Nader; his sister Liela Johnson and his brother-in-law John Cotton.

Fareed was preceded in death by his father Wade Nader and his mother Helen Nader; his sister Helen Nader and his sister Marsha Cotton.

Fareed also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

A Rosary Service will occur Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 929 Harvard Avenue, Clovis, California 93612.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will occur Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 929 Harvard Avenue, Clovis, California 93612.

A Committal Service for Fareed will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Clovis Cemetery, 305 N Villa Avenue, Clovis, California 93612.

Years ago in the early 80’s I was a survey trainee and I went to a few Conferences in Fresno and Dr. Nader was one of the speakers. His voice and manner was so positive, striking and authoritative. He came across with great confidence and made you feel like you could rely on what he said.

One speech I remember vividly was a discussion about a study of the 100 best jobs. He went through some of the jobs in the list. Of course “surveyor” didn’t crack the top 100. There were jobs like electrical engineer and software developer but the one that Dr. Nader highlighted was #6 I believe it was - which was a City Planner. You could feel the disdain in his voice to think that being a planner was so high on the list while being a surveyor was not even thought of. He asked the audience “Do you know how many tests you need to pass to become a City Planner?” I’m pretty sure you didn’t need a license back then to be a planner. He elevated the respect I had for surveying.
