California is one of 13 states out of the 50 states (37 states do, 13 don’t) that does not have some sort of definition of a boundary survey and doesn’t have basic boundary determination principles codified into law. 37 states have some sort of “Standards of Practice” that provide minimum thresholds for every surveyor to achieve in their state when conducting boundary surveys as well as other survey types.
Of the other 13 states we join in not having enforceable standards, in 5 states their State Land Surveyor Associations have created their own standards and in New York, their State Land Surveyor Association recently created standards of practice in 2020 and are actively trying to push them through as legislation. I highly encourage you to go to this link and view this video. https://www.nysapls.org/page/MTS-Info This makes California one of 8 states in the union that has no published minimum standards for boundary determination.
Honestly, I have a lot more to say about that and how it ties into the recent discussion in the other forum. But I feel like those statements and the research I included in this excel file to prove those statements should speak for themselves.
