American Association for Geodetic Surveying - CLSA member benefits

Post by SPMPLS »

How many of you CLSA members are aware that CLSA has an affiliate relationship with the American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS) via a MOU that was established many years ago? This affiliation costs CLSA nothing, but it makes AAGS affiliate membership for CLSA members available for $40/year. A full member membership is $180/year, so a significant savings.

AAGS has been in existence for more than 50 years. Last year, a feature called "Ask a Geodesist" was established for members to submit geodesy or geodetic surveying questions which will be directed to appropriate, highly qualified members of AAGS for a response. This service isn't intended for questions like "I did a GPS control survey and I can't get my network to pass the Chi squared test, can you please help me?" but for gaining knowledge on geodetic surveying principles and concepts. AAGS is currently working with NSPS to establish a geodetic certification examination, similar to the GISP or CST, or other non-licensure proficiency certifications, which will be available to AAGS members.

If you are interested, please explore the AAGS website and take advantage of the affiliate membership opportunity available to CLSA members. With the new National Spatial Reference System coming from NGS next year, it might be a great time to bolster your geodetic surveying knowledge.
