Daylight plane
I've only dealt with this sort of thing twice in my career. The architect told me that the daylight plane is calculated by going 10' above grade at the property line and then going 45° upward from there toward the center of the lot. Is that typical? The architect shows the daylight plane on the plans but doesn't show the 10' and 45°. He told me this verbally. This is in Palo Alto. I don't know if this is a standard for single family residential homes in other cities or not. Thanks.

You want to make sure the architect got the daylight plane determination right. So the prudent land surveyor will confirm prior to field verifying compliance. It is a boundary setback issue.

Daylight what?
No, it's a design issue in a profession that is far apart from an LS.You want to make sure the architect got the daylight plane determination right. So the prudent land surveyor will confirm prior to field verifying compliance. It is a boundary setback issue.
In the 40+ years I have been doing this I have never had to verify that an architect figured a setback/height correctly.

It is a land planning issue. Land planning is something that land surveyors are permitted to do....

I have to agree with Dane and Clark. Whether or not you see it as a surveying issue, it would behoove you to check to make sure it is done correctly or not. This will often keep you out of problems you don't want to have.

You guys enjoy the added liability. This is a BS request any way it's sliced, assuming the City of Palo Alto has requested it.Stephen Johnson wrote:I have to agree with Dane and Clark.
