Hello.
Has it been generally accepted by planning departments to only show contouring for the parcel to be carved out and
not the remainder parcel? For example, if you're carving out a 1-2 acre parcel out of a heavily forested and steep 10 acre parcel, will
planning departments accept just showing contouring on the 1-2 acre parcel only?

They have for me when I discussed the challenges to them before moving ahead and just submitting it. Another option is to import a DEM from the quadrangle in the area and disclaim it. Again I would try to pre-confirm that planning will not reject it.

Planners are not surveyors. Ask to review it with the individual in "responsible charge" for their land surveying.
